Kieran O’Hea
Chief Digital Officer of Brisbane

Brisbane was the second city in the world (after New York) to appoint a Chief Digital Officer. Following a rigorous and extensive global executive search, Kieran O’Hea took up the role of Brisbane Chief Digital Officer in July 2012. The position was established as a key priority following consultation with Brisbane businesses in the development of the Economic Development Plan 2012- 2031. Since his appointment Kieran has led the development of the Brisbane Digital Audit and the recently launched Digital Brisbane strategy. His experience includes 10 years developing and delivering digital strategies for various Government departments in Ireland, and a further 10 years advising the European Commission in the selection and management of online projects worth €200M (about $AU244M). He has also been a Trustee of the Edward de Bono Foundation, a Senior Research Fellow at the London Institute and an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the Innovation Value Institute. 

Thomas Barlow
 

Thomas Barlow is Australia's leading research strategist. Over many years, he has advised a range of technology-intensive companies, many of Australia's universities and major government research agencies, as well as Australian policymakers at both state and federal levels. He has held prestigious research fellowships at Oxford University in the UK and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has been the Science Adviser to the Minister for Education, Science and Training in the Australian Government, and has worked as a weekly columnist for the Financial Times newspaper in London.

Independent and widely recognised as an innovative thinker, Dr Barlow is highly respected within the Australian research community for his imagination, optimism, and vision. He is the publisher of the Barlow Report, a comprehensive and rigorous analysis of the Australian research system. He is the author of the essential book about Australian innovation, The Australian Miracle. A gifted communicator, he also regularly appears in the media and is widely sought after as a public speaker about Australian innovation, technology, science policy, and the future of knowledge.

Professor Chubb commenced in the position of Chief Scientist of Australia on 23 May 2011.

Professor Chubb was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia for "service to higher education including research and development policy in the pursuit of advancing the national interest socially, economically, culturally and environmentally and to the facilitation of a knowledge-based global economy".

Phil Robertson

 

Dr Phil Robertson is Chief Operating Officer at NICTA (National ICT Australia) and has over 25 years’ experience in technology research, development and commercialisation in both the private and public sectors in Australia and internationally.

 

He is a member of the National Archives of Australia Advisory Board, the Australian Government IT Industry Innovation Council, CSIRO’s Digital Productivity and Services Flagship Advisory Council, and the Australian Compuer Society Telecommunications Board, and has contributed to many research, university, government and industry association committees and advisory boards over the years.

Phil has published widely in imaging and visualisation, and served on the editorial boards of leading international research journals and conferences.  He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.

Annabel joined Brisbane Marketing in February 2006 and brings 20 years of experience in the business events sector including roles with Voyages Hotels & Resorts, P&O Australian Resorts and Tourism Queensland.  Her industry knowledge and wealth of experience has enabled Annabel to guide her team to achieve the Bureau’s objective of attracting meetings, conferences and delegates to Brisbane for the economic benefit of the city.  Annabel is the current chair of AACB’s Bureaux Exchange.

Scott Lovett- Director Business Events, Northern Territory Convention Bureau
 

Scott is responsible for the strategic management and operation of the NT Convention Bureau, the Business Events unit within Tourism NT. With whole of Territory coverage and teams based in Darwin, Alice Springs and Sydney, the division is primarily responsible for the effective destination marketing of the NT to the Business Tourism market.

Tracey hails from Guernsey in the Channel Islands and has lived in Perth for nine years. She has a background in both Tourism and Events in her native Channel Islands and Australia. This will include details on:

  • Growing demand from Asia while maintaining a balanced approach for traditional markets.

  • Competitively differentiating Australia, using insights from the Consumer Demand Project (CDP), recently conducted by Tourism Australia.

  • Gaining a better understanding of customer requirements and building stronger relationships with them.

  • Delivering better market insights and improved trade event activities, such as Dreamtime 2013.

As the successful applicant of the AACB Staff Scholarship 2012/13, Rebecca McCaig will present her project report. The project undertaken by Rebecca included a 2 week study trip to Boston, USA, to further understand implementation and delivery of the Massachusetts Convention Centre Authority’s “Community Assistance by Responsible Events” program. Launched in 2010, the CARE program aims to create a directly proportional relationship between Business Events and the community.
