Kieran O’Hea – Chief Digital Officer of Brisbane
In this session, Dr Phil Robertson will provide an overview of the digital age we currently live in. You will learn lessons of businesses that didn’t “get” the digital message early enough, as well as gain insights into where opportunities are likely to be found for Bureaux into the future.
Successful digital strategies for smart destinations: Kieran O’Hea will discuss innovation not in terms of technology, but in terms of the strategies and business models that will help organisations to transform, expand into export markets and achieve growth in the digital economy. He will cite case studies and research inspired by the Brisbane Digital Audit and the Digital Brisbane strategy.

Penny Lion will be presenting on how Business Events Australia (BEA) are delivering a targeted marketing and trade program to increase the consideration of Australia as a premium business events destination, with the overall objective of converting business for Australia. This will include details on:

Growing demand from Asia while maintaining a balanced approach for traditional markets.

Competitively differentiating Australia, using insights from the Consumer Demand Project (CDP), recently conducted by Tourism Australia.

Gaining a better understanding of customer requirements and building stronger relationships with them.

Delivering better market insights and improved trade event activities, such as Dreamtime 2013.

AACB Staff Scholarship 2012/13 Presentation
Rebecca McCaig – Business Development Executive, Northern Territory Convention Bureau
As the successful applicant of the AACB Staff Scholarship 2012/13, Rebecca McCaig will present her project report. The project undertaken by Rebecca included a 2 week study trip to Boston, USA, to further understand implementation and delivery of the Massachusetts Convention Centre Authority’s “Community Assistance by Responsible Events” program. Launched in 2010, the CARE program aims to create a directly proportional relationship between Business Events and the community.

As the winner of AACB’s inaugural DMAI Prize for 2013, Emelia Vimalasiri earned the opportunity to attend the Destination Marketing Association International annual convention in Orlando, Florida USA. Emelia will provide an update of the knowledge she gained by attending this international event with the 2013 theme of “Better Together, Integrating Our Strengths”.
